Teaching Philosophy
I aim to teach my students a methodical and patient approach to practice, and help them create a toolbox of problem solving strategies to bring into the practice room. I insist on specific attention to technical exercises. These include work on scales and scale patterns, long tones, intonation exercises, tonguing exercises, and etudes. Through creating a solid technical base in bassoon playing, we are able to better realize our musical visions, as well as discover our unique musical voices.
I encourage my students to explore a wide range of repertoire, from a diverse cast of composers and time periods.
I hope to be a source of joy and inpiration in my students. I want them to learn that through the continued pursuit of excellence, we can make vast improvements not only to our own lives, but also to those who we touch with our music.
